The BMW M3 was first introduced in 1986 as a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series (E30). The M3 was equipped with a more aggressive and more aerodynamic body shell, a revised and stiffer suspension, and a more powerful and responsive engine. The BMW M3 was sold initially in a two-door sedan and two-door cabriolet version, but in 1998 a four-door sedan version was added to the lineup. The current fourth-generation BMW M3 was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 2007 as the BMW M3 concept with the production version making its premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2007.
