Toyota Motor Corporation is currently the world's largest car manufacturer. The company produced its first car, the Toyota AA under the direction of Kiichiro Toyoda in 1936. At the time the company was a department of Toyota Industries and only became a company in 1937. The early cars produced by Toyota were quite similar to the Dodge Power Wagon and Chevrolet, with some parts even being interchangeable with their American counterparts! Today, Toyota owns and operates Lexus and Scion and has a majority shareholding in Daihatsu Motors.
